Teaching Cultural Studies
Each module is divided into three phases:
The instructional phase of each module lasts for twelve weeks, during which time course participants work through course readers, selected offprints (and, where appropriate, other texts/videos, etc.) and a study guide. The study guide contains self-evaluation tasks and assessed exercises to be submitted to the University of Strathclyde on specified dates.
During the project/essay phase of each module, course participants work on a small-scale research project or essay on a topic of their choice related to the content of the module. Course participants are encouraged to research their culture of residence, so as to faciliate cross-cultural comparison with the British texts/data supplied in the module.
During the consolidation phase of each module, course participants are encouraged to think about the possible application of module materials to their own teaching (e.g. the development of draft teaching materials), and to read in preparation for the next module.
Course participants work on two modules at a time, and then attend the Summer School before working on their dissertation.
