The University of Strathclyde was delighted to honour Amar Latif as Alumnus of the Year 2006. The award is an annual celebration of the contributions our alumni make in their chosen fields, in the UK and overseas.
As well as having a highly successful managerial career with BT, Amar also runs his own company. Traveleyes, which he set up in 2004, provides holidays for blind and visually impaired people in destinations they would otherwise find difficult or impossible to visit. His innovative scheme pairs travellers with sighted companions, who receive a discount on the cost of the holiday. His entrepreneurship makes him a fantastic role model for Strathclyde students and alumni.
Amar is himself visually impaired and last year starred in BBC2's Beyond Boundaries series, which followed the progress of a group of people with physical disabilities as they crossed Nicaragua from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific Ocean. He has already received several awards for his achievements, including One Vision Man of the Year, awarded by the Royal National College for the Blind, and Outstanding Young Person of the World, awarded by Junior Chamber International. Strathclyde is very proud to add Alumnus of the Year to these accolades.
