Centre for Sports and Health

main content

Here at Strathclyde we are recognised for our excellent sporting heritage and as being a key provider of sports education in Scotland. With our existing facilities cramped and outdated and with the health agenda increasingly dominant, a stunning new Centre for Sports and Health is planned.

A £33million project, the Centre for Sports and Health will consolidate the three main cornerstones of recreation, teaching and research in facilities on one single site in attractive physical surroundings in the very heart of the campus. The new development will promote recreation, sport, physical activity and wellbeing to students, staff, alumni and general public - potentially reaching a diverse community of around 100,000.

High quality sporting facilities form an essential part of any university campus. The benefits of the new centre will extend well beyond the physical boundaries of the building and have a positive and direct impact on delivery of sporting and health targets.

With your help, we can deliver a remarkable facility to

  • Increase participation in physical activity and a healthy lifestyle in all who use it
  • Train tomorrow's physical education professionals who in turn will be responsible for encouraging an active healthy lifestyle in future generations
  • Enhance our already world-class research in sports science, health research, mobility and physiology
  • Support and further improve our sporting excellence

The University has invested £31.9m in the new facility. The Moffat Trust is backing the project with a grant of £350,000 for the main fitness suite, equipment and an endowment for a number of golf bursaries. The Robert Barr Family Trust has granted us £100,000 in support of the squash courts.
