BACKGROUND
Each year our MSc in Urban Design course attracts several students from non design backgrounds, ranging from mathematics and planning to geography and social sciences.  Over 4 weeks we give them an intensive training in design software so that they can work on design projects alongside our 5th year Architecture students.

We will be opening this short course to professional planners who are interested in improving their graphic communication skills.

Note that students from our Representation class, without previous design training, produced the majority of the images in the pdf leaflet:CPD UD REPRESENTATION. Our CPD course aims to give the same rapid learning opportunity to Professional planners.

3. CPD COURSE

PLANNING ASSIST

We aim to narrow the gap between the professional worlds of planners and architects. We aim to equip the planning profession both with a greater understanding about the process of creating and delivering high quality architecture as well as enhancing the range of tools they possess for positively influencing the quality of the built environment through the planning process.

"The planning procedure is designed to control positive change within our towns and cities but also to protect our local historic buildings and areas of natural beauty making sure that the land is developed to everyone’s long term interest."

We are at a watershed in the public’s perception of architecture and design. Governments and public bodies alike now acknowledge the crucial role they have on our quality of life. The creative industries are being championed as a major contributor to society both at cultural and economic levels. Our CPD course aims to deepen planners’ understanding of the world of architecture by providing them with new knowledge and tools.
