PRINTING SERVICES

Department: The Department has 3 A2/A1 colour print plotters, follow the procedure for printing, in the 'Resources' section. One is located at the rear of the Gallery (AR202) and two are in the Basement (east end).

University Poster Print: Based on Level 2 of the Andersonian Library. Offers large scale printing and lamination. Price list and opening hours on their web page. 0141 548 2708. 

University Print Unit: In the Colville Bld. adjacent to ours. They offer Presentation and display services: print in any quantity (on card etc.), bind, produce publications and leaflets.

STUDENT COMPETITIONS

Students are encouraged to enter the many national and International competitions that are advertised every year.  Available on a wide range of topics, (sustainability, urbanism, materials, project safety) sponsored by the architecture press, private companies and academic institutions, the prizes given can be considerable and sponsors may offer trips abroad to the finalists to attend the awards. Group submissions are often accepted.

Please check the list online and also pass information on new Competitions to Kathryn Young for circulation to your colleagues. 
Posters will be placed on the Competitions Noticeboard along with a list of our winners, but you should look online eg. compilation list on AJ Student Cometitions.

RIAS MEMBERSHIP FOR STUDENTS
The Royal Institute Architect Scotland are offering free membership offer to students

Student Members can find access to support, resources, news and the ability to meet up with practicing chartered architects at RIAS events - all to help towards becoming a fully qualified architect. Students also enjoy discounts in the RIAS Bookshop (10%), at RIAS national CPD events and at our annual Convention. A wide range of more locally focussed events are organised by their Chapter. Students receive the regular RIAS ebulletin, a source of information and events and a free copy of the RIAS Quarterly. They are also eligible to enter RIAS student competitions. Entering competitions provides experience, exposure and even the possibility of cash! An extensive programme of student awards is provided by the RIAS and A+DS, including:

 -The RIAS Silver Medal, the premier award for student achievement, sits alongside the other awards for students. In partnership with A+DS, a special exhibition promotes winners’ work to a wide audience.
-The James Miller Student Award has been set up to support architecture students who are facing hardship issues which affect their ability to complete all or part of their course.

RIAS Student membership is free. Eligibility requirements are:
•          resident in Scotland,
•          studying architecture in a Scottish school of architecture, or
•          studying as a pupil in an architect’s office, and
•          have not yet passed Part III.


RIBA PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Year out students are required to complete log books to record their progress and work covered during their professional education and development.
