About the Careers Service

Who can use the Careers Service?

All students, from your first day at University right through to your graduation can use the Careers Service.

All graduates may use the Careers Service for up to 10 years after graduation. Graduate Charges.

 

We are unable to provide a Careers guidance service to prospective students, although they are welcome to use the resources on our website, particularly our guide for Prospective Students.

 

I am a member of staff. Can I use the Careers Service?

If you are graduate of Strathclyde, within 10 years of graduation, you may use the Careers Service.  Normal Graduate Charges apply.

I need to see a Careers Adviser immediately...

If your enquiry is urgent, then come along to our drop-in service.   Drop-in operates from 1.30 - 4 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year.   There is no booking in advance, and it can sometimes be quite busy but we will do our best to fit you in.   Slots are for a maximum of 20 minutes

Details of the Adviser on duty will be notified on our homepage on drop-in days.

Do I have to see a specific Careers Adviser? / Who is my Careers Adviser?

We have four Careers Advisers here at Strathclyde University.   

Meet them here 

Students generally arrange to see their own Careers Adviser as these are the people who work with your own department and know about your course and the options which you have.  

However if you have a general question, particularly at drop-in, you can speak to any Adviser on duty.  In the event that your Adviser is unavailable, then our reception team will guide you about who to speak to.

Who do I contact if I am having trouble booking or cancelling online on MyCareer?

If you are experiencing any difficulty with MyCareer (our online careers booking system), then please email yourcareer@strath.ac.uk in the first instance.   One of our technical support team will get back to you as soon as possible.

What happens if I am late for an appointment?

It is really important that you arrive for your appointment on time.   If you are more than 10 minutes late for a guidance appointment (5 minutes for a CV check), you will not be seen and you will need to re-book an alternative appointment.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer the appointment to someone else.   Last year over 50 people simply did not show up for appointments and this is not fair either to the Adviser or to your student colleagues who are waiting to book.

How often can I book an appointment?

You may book one CV checking appointment every 4 weeks.

Drop-in

You may come to drop-in as required

Guidance appointments

After your first appointment, your Adviser will indicate when it may be appropriate to make a follow-up appointment

Can the Careers Service help me to find a part-time job while I study?

Yes.

We don't just advertise graduate vacancies.   On our vacancies database (separate sign-up required), you will find part-time vacancies as well.   Set up your emails alerts so you know when a new job has been posted.
