This part of the web site provides a gateway to information and learning resources for the Chartered Teacher Studies programme. Chartered Teacher status is conferred on experienced teachers who have completed a programme of professional development at Master's level and have demonstrated their competence at the Standard for Chartered Teacher.
Teachers are eligible to register for this programme if they :
- are fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS)
- have maintained a CPD portfolio
- are at the top of the main grade salary scale
Applicants must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility from the GTCS and provide one reference from a Head Teacher or line manager.
The Chartered Teacher Studies programme in the University of Strathclyde is offered in a variety of delivery modes, including Saturday/evenings, vacation and arrangements with local authorities. Teachers working in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland can also access the programme offered by the University of the Highlands and Islands.
The MSc is structured around four core modules, a choice of four 'option' modules and a professional enquiry stage worth four modules. The four core modules are:
- Professional Development
- Learning and Teaching
- Education for All
- Working Together
Professional Development is core Module 1 so must be completed first and the professional enquiry stage must be completed last, but you may take the remaining three core and four core option modules in any order. Following Module 1 you may be able to claim APL (Accreditation for Prior Learning). APL claims for up to 50% of the programme can be assessed by the University.
Module Fee: £700 - Please note the fee for Chartered Teacher Studies core and option modules (15SM credits) from 1st August 2010 - 31st July 2011 is £700. The MSc Project Phase (four modules) is a fixed fee of £1500 for session 2010-11.
