This course is one of the themes within the Faculty's multidisciplinary Postgraduate Training Package in Sustainable Engineering. The course is open to full-time and part-time students wishing to take up careers in industry, and to industrial staff seeking continuing professional development.

The course comprises three related components of specialist and generic taught modules and industry-relevant projects. Teaching methods include lectures, discussions, group work, informal crits, debating and computer-aided learning.

A Instructional Modules

Students take three modules from the following: Design Management, Project Work and Project Management, Ecological and Environmental Impact, Information Management. Students also take a number of specialist modules selected from the following (two for the award of a Postgraduate Certificate, four to work towards a Postgraduate Diploma/MSc): Clean Processing, Safety and Environment, Process Design, Modelling and Simulation, Advanced Separations.

B Group Project

Teams of students from different themes tackle a problem of practical relevance, in close cooperation with external personnel. Field trips and regular progress reports are an integral part of the process.

C Individual Project

Each student studies a selected topic in depth and submits a thesis.

Course Length

MSc: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time.
PgDip: 9 months full-time; 24 months part-time.

Entry Requirements

Honours degree from a relevant chemical engineering or technology discipline. Entry may be possible with other qualifications, provided there is evidence of relevant experience and of the capacity for postgraduate study.
