Chem Eng Student Wins RAE Engineering Leadership Advanced Award

Fraser Queen, a 3rd Year Chemical Engineer at Strathclyde, has been awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering 'Engineering Leadership Advanced Award'.  Last year the department saw the first award of this kind to the University for Claire Thompson, and Fraser is continuing the success, again as the only winner from a Chemical Engineering department.

Fraser beat hundreds of applicants from across the UK and will receive £5000 over the next three years towards his personal development plan.  He has also been allocated a Sainsbury Management Fellow mentor to give him career advice and help me network with executives from different businesses, and the opportunity to network with fellow award-holders.

There are annually only 30 awards nationwide and Fraser admits he was surprised to be called for an interview.  As part of the selection process, candidates are asked to describe what they would do if they won the funding. Fraser says, “This means I can go on field trips abroad to study different processes and different technologies, so it can be a huge benefit to both my education and my future career.  This award could really give my career a kick-start and I’m anxious to take full advantage of the opportunities it could give me. I hope to work abroad when I graduate so the experience from this award will suit me perfectly.”
