FAQs

  1. Do I need to follow the published programme?
No, as long as you accumulate the correct number of Core and Elective credits, you can complete the programme in the order of your choice.
  2. Do I need to commit to the full programme?
No, we recognise that you might want to confirm your participation each ear and have introduced a one year PG certificate and two year Diploma if you cannot complete the full MSc programme.
  3. Can I have "time-out" if something comes up at work?
Yes, either you can book less modules at the start of each semester or if you have started a series and need to cut back, then you can defer to the next presentation.
  4. How do I pay for the course?
Payment is made annually at the start of each academic year. The University has various payment plans available to spread these costs.
  5. Should I take Foundation modules?
These are designed as "bridging" units into Chemical Engineering and can assist towards gaining IChemE membership if Chemical Engineering is not your original discipline.
  6. Do I need to attend all the tutorials?
The success of our course are the "supported tutorials" system that allows you to learn and share with your fellow students. Missing them means losing something from the course, but we recognise that other pressures may limit your availability and do our best to support you. Note that some modules include assessment at tutorials though.
  7. What is a "pass"?
Generally, you need to achieve 40% on a module plus average 50% across all your modules. The minimum pass work in an exam is 35%. The exam and assignment marks make up your module pass mark.
  8. What is the "Major Project"?
It is your chance to display how you can apply a number of elements of the course to your chosen business application. It represents an opportunity for you to demonstrate a significant payback to your organisation by completing work under supervision of a team of specialist academics at a minimal cost.
  9. After I apply what happens next?
We need to receive references or copies of your qualifications before formally confirming your place. You will then receive your material and timetables at the beginning of September. From there, you complete the designated study programmes published in your module material and attend tutorials as specified over the 6 month semester.
  10. What else should I know?
You are not alone. Firstly, you can talk to your fellow students and share experiences and hopefully discuss with your company mentor your choice of modules and project assignment. As important will be the "pastoral care" from the IGDS Programme Manager who has responsibility to assist you in completing the programme.
