The MSc/PgDip Information and Library Studies (ILS) covers the creation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information in organisations and in society at large and therefore encompass both public and private sector libraries and information systems and services, together with related subjects such as management, publishing and the evaluation and use of information. The course is intended for graduates in any discipline who wish to pursue a career in the field of information or library services.

Admission Requirements
An Honours degree or other qualification considered to be equivalent to a first or second class Honours degree from a UK University. Applicants whose first language is not English are normally required to possess a TOEFL score of 600 (250 in computer based test) or IELTS score of 6.5

Fees
You may be eligible for a tuition fee loan of up to £3400 for full time post graduate study. Please visit SAAS for further information.
Fees: Home/EU £3,400, Rest of UK £9,000, International £10,200. Start Date: 24th September 2013.
Duration: 12 months, 9 months taught thereafter MSc students undertake a dissertations for a further 3 months.
Curriculum
Diploma and MSc students follow the same instructional course for the first two semesters; thereafter, MSc students prepare a dissertation of up to 20,000 words on an approved topic. Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratories. Dissertation is by supervision.

- Information Law
- Library Technology and Systems
- Managing Information Services
- Libraries, Information, and Society
- Research Methods
Dissertation
An individual research project on an approved topic, which allows students to pursue an area of specific interest, providing scope for original thought, research and presentation.
Accreditation
The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. Graduates will be entitled to become associate members of CILIP and will be eligible for chartership leading to the award of MCLIP, providing direct entry to a professional body and meeting the requirements of many specialist employers.

The course opens up opportunities in a range of jobs in:
- The public sector: Universities, Schools, Museums and Archives, NHS Scotland, Public Libraries.
- The private sector: Legal and Financial Institutions, Media Companies, Publishing, Bookselling, Industrial Firms, Consultancy, Scottish Television, IDOX.
- Not for profit: Research Institutes, Voluntary Organisations.
