SAAS Tuition Fee Loan (home fees)

Eligible postgraduate students can apply to SAAS for a tuition fee loan to help with the cost of their fees (up to £3,600 for full time students and up to £1,800 for part time students).  

SAAS offer funding for up to 5,000 full and part-time postgraduate students in the form of a repayable student support loan, offered towards the cost of their tuition fees. Repayment commences after students graduate and are in employment, earning above the student loan repayment threshold, which is currently £15,795.  

Only one year Postgraduate diplomas and the 9 month taught element of the following Masters courses will be eligible: MSc Environmental Engineering, MSc Environmental Entrepreneurship, MSc Environmental Health, MSc Sustainability & Environmental Studies. Part time study should be completed within two academic years.

Eligibility

There are quite strict rules for which applicants are eligible for a Postgraduate Funding. Please check your eligibility by visiting the SAAS website

In summary, the key eligibility criteria as set out by SAAS is as follows:-

  • UK Nationals - to meet the residence conditions, you must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the 3 years immediately prior to 1st August 2013 and you must be ordinarily resident in Scotland on the 1st August 2013. For students who have moved residence from elswehere in the UK to Scotland, to qualify as 'ordinarily resident', your main purpose in coming to Scotland must not have been to receive full-time education. Living here totally or mainly for the purpose of receiving full-time education does not count as being ordinarily resident. If the latter applies to you, you must have spent a period of residence in Scotland of at least 1 year since receiving full-time education.
  • EU Nationals (excluding UK Nationals) - may qualify for support if you are an EU National and have been ordinarily resident in the EU, EEA or Switzerland for the 3 years immediately prior to 1st August 2013.
  • If you are not a UK national or member of another EU state, you must have been granted indefinate leave to remain in the UK and be ordinarily resident in Scotland on 1st August 2013.
