Visiting Professor STEVE WALLACE BSc (Hons) PhD MIEMA
Prof Wallace is Head of Environment and Global Standards, National Grid, a post within the senior management team responsible for Safety, Health and Environmental strategy for National Grid across the global corporation. His key responsibilities include development of all aspects of sustainable environmental policies, strategies and operating models, including climate change, across National Grid operations in the US and UK, reporting to the Executive Board on strategic sustainability, environmental, climate change and environmental risk management issues, development of global standards for Safety, Health and Environmental issues to promote best practice between UK and US operations, managing a team of environmental specialists that support delivery of National Grid's environmental objectives, championing of National Grid environmental approaches with internal and external stakeholders, liaison with key governmental and NGO stakeholders on up and coming environmental issues and commissioning research to inform policy development and best practice. Prof Wallace has been responsible for delivery of all aspects of National Grids contaminated land strategy in the UK, from developing 5 year business plans through to delivery of site specific risk management projects. This involved site prioritization and selection from a national portfolio and justifying to internal businesses, environmental regulators and OFGEM. He has managed a wide range of technical and policy issues related to waste and contaminated land both through internal advice and response to draft documents produced by DEFRA, the Environment Agency and others. Prof Wallace was the chair of the Development Team in the Soil Guideline Value Task Force. This was a Cabinet Office Better Regulation initiative formed in order to develop more appropriate technical guidance to support the Part 2A regime.
