The Centre for Lifelong Learning has many years of experience of providing courses designed especially for adults. It provides lifelong learning opportunities by making University education and training available to people at all levels of achievement before, during and after their working life.
Whether you are 18 or 85, studying for professional development purposes, want to improve your qualifications, or simply learn for personal pleasure, we have a course that's right for you. The work of the Centre currently involves three separate, but inter-related, activities.
The CPD programme at the University of Strathclyde aims to offer high level knowledge and skills training to professionals in work and those who are seeking employment. It has been identified by the University as the main focus of the Lifelong Learning Strategy. As well as running its own CPD courses, which include Health and Safety courses, courses in Genealogical Studies, and specialised Counselling courses, the Centre also collaborates with other University departments and with professional bodies to identify current and emerging requirements, to promote CPD, and to give University recognition to individuals undertaking CPD courses.

A large number of classes offer optional accreditation which can lead to a University award (The Open Studies Certificate). The programme aims to provide adults with learning, which will be of benefit in work, leisure, family and civic situations. The Adult Learning Programme also includes the Access Course (Pre-Entry Certificate), for adults wishing to enter higher education, the Town and Gown Lecture Series, and the Summer Programme.
Developed and managed by the Senior Studies Institute (SSI). The Institute provides lifelong learning opportunities aimed at older adults, through its extensive daytime programme of classes, as well as providing a range of social, volunteering, and personal development services. Classes cover subjects and topics of special interest to older people, and all students bring an interesting range of life experience. The Senior Studies Institute also administers a variety of employability and enterprise programmes, as well as a number of consultancy and research initiatives.
