The Centre is offering the Certificate in Counselling Skills, commencing September 2012. This course lasts for one academic year and is designed in association with the Confederation of Scottish Counselling Agencies for people for whom counselling skills could be useful in their normal day-to-day work, and uses COSCA materials and COSCA registered trainers. As well as familiarising participants with the 'counselling approach' and a range of counselling skills, the course will provide a review of a number of theories which underpin their applications. The four modules which make up the course each contain elements of skills, knowledge and self-awareness interwoven throughout the exercises. Successful participants will have an enhanced understanding of the human condition and human problems. The Certificate, once completed, does not give licence to practice as a Counsellor, but is useful to participants as a means of enhancing work performance or, as foundation study for those who intend to move on to a Diploma in Counselling.
Two courses will be offered as follows:
Tuesday evenings from 4th September, 18.30-21.00
Tutor: Colin Flynn
Saturday mornings from 29th September, 09.30-12.00
Tutor: Audrey Cuthel
Course duration is one full academic year, ending late June 2013.
The course fee is £1100. The ILA200 can be used as well as the SAAS Part-Time Fee Grant. If eligible, you can use either of these sources but not both.
An outline of the course can be viewed on COSCA's website at http://www.cosca.org.uk/docs/144.doc
