The Centre for Lifelong Learning has a dedicated team of professionals drawn from University of Strathclyde academic staff, as well as consultants and practitioners, bringing together a wide range of specialists from fields as diverse as occupational hygiene, law, ergonomics, science, technology and management to provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to health and safety education and training.
Few individuals come into occupational health and safety directly from school, college or university. Typically, the health and safety practitioner will have gained considerable work experience in some alternative capacity prior to focusing on this particular field as a professional career option. Much of the experience already gained in the workplace will be valuable, but professional competence can only be fully achieved and demonstrated by the acquisition of academic knowledge, supplemented by skills and techniques which underpin professional practice through a structured programme of study.
