Volunteering

main content

Overview

The Senior Studies Institute provides opportunities for people over 50 to use their learning and life skills in a range of socially valuable contexts - as family members, active citizens and volunteers. This includes developing learning opportunities in areas not traditionally viewed as the domain of adult education.

Many students at the Senior Studies Institute enjoy gifting their time and experience in voluntary activities. Within the Institute you can find:

University Guides
Ambassadors for Strathclyde University's historic buildings, the Barony and the Ramshorn, as well as Campus tours.

Fear Free IT
One-to-One introduction of older people to computers.

The Tuesday Club
University administration volunteer help.

Who can volunteer?

No matter what your skills or experience someone will value your help and most volunteers get a great sense of fulfilment if they chose something that matters to them.

How do you know if volunteering is for you?

*  Check your level of commitment to the particular
    organisation.
*  Check that you have time for it and won't let anyone down.
*  How long do you anticipate working for the organisation?
*  What skills can you offer?
*  Would you like some training before beginning?
