The Collins Gallery is responsible for the University of Strathclyde's museum collections of Fine Art and Historic Scientific Instruments, material from which can be viewed by appointment.
Members of staff are advised that due to a forthcoming audit of the University's Collections in January and February 2012, and the closure of the Collins Gallery, the loan of artworks to departments is suspended indefinitely.

-Great, Great Uncle Abraham's Blues Collection : Paddy Killer-
The Collection comprises some 1000 prints, paintings, drawings and small sculptures, around 75% of which currently adorns offices and communal areas on both the John Anderson and Jordanhill campuses.

-Ardmore Point : Timo Jokela-
We are currently compiling a comprehensive inventory of the locations and condition of the Fine Art Collection and in preparation, we will be contacting all departments to ensure that our records of loans are accurate! So….please let us know if you’re leaving for pastures new or have relocated your offices as soon as possible.
Historic and Scientific Instruments
This collection is mainly in storage at the Collins Gallery and includes an impressive range of some 400 instruments dating from the 18th century to the early 20th century. Of particular interest is the collection of material which belonged to Professor John Anderson, the founder of Anderson's Institution, from which evolved the University of Strathclyde. A printed catalogue is available.
Fine Art
The Fine Art Collection contains over 1,000 paintings, prints and drawings, mainly British, dating from the mid-18th century to the present day. In October 2000, the University received a generous gift of some 400 works by contemporary Scottish artists from Dr Helen Cargill Thompson, and continues to benefit from further donations.
Much of the collection is currently displayed in offices and departments around both the John Anderson and Jordanhill campuses, but the gallery is happy to arrange public access to specific artworks if required.
