"" Before you send in your Application Form, please phone or email to check that there are places available on the course(s) you are interested in taking.

Certificates in Professional Development have a separate form.

Theatre and Film Studio courses at the University of Strathclyde have been developed for everyone from beginners through to professionals wanting to extend their skills and experience. If you need advice on any course, phone the Theatre Administrator.

Our courses are accredited and 10 credits per course can be accumulated towards the University of Strathclyde Open Studies Certificate. Assessment is by feedback from tutors on work you undertake in the classes and on your logbook/journal/ essay or writing. We also offer Certificates in Professional Development. Each class starting on a specific date has its own class number.

Because of the abolition of 5 credit courses, a suite of new 11 credit courses have been created, which map directly onto previous theatre and film courses. You will notice that, underneath each new course title, the name of the old course appears, so that (if you have taken our courses before) you can clearly see which class is appropriate for you.

All our accredited courses are available under the ILA Scotland £200 offer. For information on fee waivers, see the application form, or phone the Theatre Administrator. Concessions are for Strathclyde Theatre Group members only.

Acting ""

Acting 1,2,3 and 4 cover the art of acting, improvisation, movement, voice, developing a character and working with texts – from the classics to the contemporary repertoire. The classes are text-based, and involve physical activity. To take them, you therefore need a good level of literacy and the ability to participate thoroughly in movement work.

Classes draw on approaches to acting by major exponents of the art, ranging from Stanislavsky, Brecht and Grotowski to Uta Hagen.

The level of class you take initially depends on your previous experience. When you send in your application form, please attach a brief description of your previous experience of acting or acting workshops (if any). We may then contact you before registering you for a class.

For progression from one level to another in these courses, applicants should have successfully completed the previous level, or be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of experience and ability. As with all our credit courses, which are part of the University’s Open Studies Certificate, progression is based on tutor assessment.
