Wedding Veil
Within Islam the marriage ceremony is essentially a civil affair involving the exchange of vows in front of witnesses, the payment of a sum of money to the bride which is hers to keep if her husband should later divorce her and the signing of an agreement to the specific details of the marriage contract. Verses from the Qur'an are recited during the ceremony though the presence of a religious official is not required.
The scarlet and gold dresses and henna painting often associated with Muslim brides are of cultural origin and have nothing to do with Islam. Similarly the wedding veil worn by some brides is a reflection of cultural traditions and has no specific religious significance.
