Havdalah Candle
Havdalah is the Hebrew word for distinction or separation. The Havdalah ceremony marks the end of the Sabbath. Blessings are recited over wine, a candle and spices. The plaited candle brings together the different aspects of the sabbath. Customs vary in different communities, but the lighted candle is usually extinguished in the wine.
The ceremony makes use of all five senses and is a reminder to Jews as the new week begins that all of their senses should be used to make life holy.
