This course introduces the ASBA legislation and the powers it gives to local authorities.  

 

It includes training in the use  of sound level meters and analysers.  It will also enable participants to assess the significance of measurement data against the framework of standards and legislation for environmental noise. 

Who should attend?

This 4-day introductory course is intended for Technical Officers; Environmental Health Officers and Enforcement Officers who require further training in noise measurement practice and theory. Candidates who have already achieved the Certificate of Proficiency in Environmental Noise Measurement can attend a one-day refresher including the practical examination for the Institute of Acoustics.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Make and record reliable measurements of noise from a variety of noise sources, according to the requirements of the ASBA legislation.
  • Present and interpret measurement data in a form suitable for inclusion in a formal report.
  • Assess the significance of measured noise levels in terms of acceptability to people, again with reference to established rating procedures, guidance documents and standards set by local authorities.
  • Identify in outline the principal methods of noise control to mitigate the impact of noise in the community.
  • Critically appraise the noise measurement methodology, data and interpretation in reports and environmental appraisals and comment on proposals for noise impact mitigation.

Dates

Noise measurement for Anti-social behaviour will not be offered during 2012 .
