BEng/MEng (UCAS Code GH46/GHK6)
Dual accreditation with the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and the British Computer Society (BCS)
Systems and devices which combine electronics and computer technology drive society. We encounter then every day within our homes, healthcare, entertainment, communications, transportation, education, industry and commerce. Smart phones, multimedia players, control systems in vehicles, x-rays, robotic limbs – these are a few examples. As our use of electronic devices increases, there is an acute need for engineers with the ability to create and embed intelligence in the products of the future.
These degrees are designed for candidates who wish to be able to operate and work at the interface of modern electronics and software engineering, and have the relevant skills to embark on a highly paid, dynamic professional engineering and/or IT career.
Theses courses are taught jointly between the Departments of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, and Computer & Information Sciences. Core Electronic Engineering and Computer Science subjects undertaken in the first three years provide the strong foundation for later study.
In Years 4 and 5 you choose specialist classes in electronic and computing topics. In Year 4 an individual project is undertaken in either, or both topics, and you may spend a semester studying abroad. Overseas study opportunities are available within Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and SE Asia.
In Year 5 MEng students deepen their specialist knowledge and enhance their design and groupworking skills through a major group project. In addition to technical challenges, this develops skills in planning, management and finance.
