Some 3000 participants from 60 countries attended the 60th International Astronautical Congress, held in Daejeon, South Korea, from 12-16 October 2009. The heads of global space agencies and academics from the world’s leading universities and institutions in aerospace shared their knowledge and views on current developments and future plans in space exploration.
For the first time at the Congress, there was a special session on public education and outreach, which included a comprehensive account of how the Scottish Space School turned young people on to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The paper, ‘Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientist & Engineers’, was co-written by Gordon McVie, Outreach Co-ordinator, Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering.
