Introduction

Welcome to the Department of English Studies. In the 2008 RAE, 51% of our research outputs were rated 'world leading' or 'excellent international'.

Our approach to teaching and learning is innovative, modern and friendly, giving you a comprehensive understanding of English literature. The emphasis is on helping you develop a range of applicable skills to grow your future career, including text analysis and interpretation.

With us, you can study everything from literature to journalism, and develop your own original work along the way. You'll get the chance to work with award-winning poets, dramatists and novelists such as Louise Welsh, David Kinloch and Rodge Glass.
