Quality in Education Research

main content

The QIE Centre is a specialist unit in the Faculty of Education working with central government, education authorities, schools and other public bodies to improve the quality of education.

QIE staff have experience leading national and international policy-related research and evaluation projects. Areas of particular expertise include policy implementation, school improvement and self-evaluation, study support, out of school hours learning, and inclusive education.

QIE is a facilitative research centre; we co-ordinate research activity drawing on expertise from across the University's Faculty of Education, bringing specialist knowledge and skills to inform high quality, tailored research. We support these specialists with experienced research assistants, project management, and administrative support, creating an efficient and economical approach to research and evaluation. To ensure that high standards are maintained in the management of research projects, QIE operates its own research governance and quality assurance policy in addition to the University of Strathclyde's quality assurance procedures.

If you are a Faculty staff member interested in working collaboratively with QIE, please see our guide to working with QIE.

QIE also produces software packages for the collection and analysis of school self-evaluation data from pupils, school staff, parents and other groups. These are already being used successfully in several education authorities. The Centre designs and produces a range of other multi-media educational materials for use in the classroom, and can provide consultancy support for the development of new ideas.
