This part-time modular course is designed for those supporting the learning of children and young people with additional support needs. It is delivered through day release and/or Saturdays and Tuesday evenings. The course can also be delivered, by arrangement, on an outreach basis.
The modules that will be delivered by the University of Strathclyde in 2009, including the structure of each level, are detailed below.
The Certificate comprises three core modules and one specialist option module.

Project Module
- Independent Study (single module)
On completion of the Diploma, students will undertake the Professional Enquiry and Development leading to a Dissertation. This will involve a significant piece of research in the area of Additional Support Needs or Inclusion and is equivalent to four modules.
Teachers
- First degree or equivalent plus a recognised teaching qualification in primary, secondary or further education
- Post-qualification experience
- Full General Teaching Council registration
Non-Teachers
- First degree or equivalent
- Employed in a context where they are working to support the learning of children and/or young people
