The Science, Engineering and Art of Golf: from tee to green. Dr Steve Otto, Director – Research & Testing, The R&A, St Andrews
The seemingly simple process of hitting a golf ball has proved challenging in the centuries since golf was first played in Scotland. This talk will include a description of the physics of impact and clear up some commonly misunderstood aspects of the game.
Dr Steve Otto, The R&A’s Director is responsible for the group who evaluate clubs and balls against the Rules of Golf. A former Mathematician and NASA staff scientist, Dr Otto has published a wide range of articles describing the fate of fluid flows, bubbles, micro-organisms and more recently material on the physics of golf.
