Graduates Association

main content

When the University of Strathclyde was granted its Royal Charter in 1964, specific provision was made for a Graduates Association (GA), whose object would be to further the well-being of the University, and to foster the interest of its members in the University.

University of Strathclyde Sailing – just one of the activities supported by the Graduates Association.

On graduation you automatically become a member of the GA for life, and that applies to our Honorary Graduates too. The GA receives a fee of £5 for each new graduate, giving an income of about £20,000 per year.

The following are just some of the ways that you can support the development of the University. Also please promote the University in your workplace and among personal contacts, as the place of useful learning, excellent in research and teaching and encourage others to become students at Strathclyde. Many University facilities are available to graduates - another way to keep in touch?

Dr Catriona Tedford, President 2009

The GA provides a bridge between the University and its former students. The GA is managed by a Council. The Council is interested in attracting new members, particularly if their age group or Faculty is not well represented.

The Council is represented on the University Court and University Convocation Through the GA you can contribute to the development of the University in these changing and challenging times.

The GA supports a number of student activities. These include the Strathclyde Law Clinic, Strathclyde Motor Sports, and Strathclyde Water Sports. These activities are aimed at improving the quality of life for our students and to help prepare them for a career. We are looking for graduates that would like to get involved with these activities, or can suggest other similar activities.

The GA is concerned about employment opportunities in these difficult times. We have close links with the University Careers Service and sponsored its Graduate Jobsearch Online web site. We are looking for graduates who could offer work experience or "shadow" places for current students or recent graduates. Graduates wishing to offer work experience should contact the Student Employment Service to discuss their suggestions - see  http://www.strath.ac.uk/careers/employers/advertisingvacancies/studentemploymentservice/  for advice to employers.  Margo Cox and Maureen Hendry will be happy to hear from you on 0141 548 4866.

The GA has supported Strathclyde's contribution to the Malawi Millennium project. We are looking for graduates to become involved with a number of telecommunications projects.

The GA has a number of social events. If you have just had a class reunion why not agree to meet up at the next GA Fashion Show or Ball? We are always looking for graduates to attend and/or assist at our social events.
