The Department of History at the University of Strathclyde is a dynamic teaching and research environment located in the heart of historic Glasgow.

Department staff members include experts in periods from the medieval period through to the twentieth century. They teach and research Scottish, British, European, American, Asian, African and Middle Eastern history. Their approaches to historical problems combine perspectives from political history, social history, cultural history and economic history.

Undergraduate teaching has been recognised as 'Excellent' by the Teaching Quality Assessment and successful graduates have gone on to enjoy careers in business, politics, education and the civil service. Postgraduate courses have been endorsed by the ESRC and the AHRC. These bodies provide studentships for study in History at Strathclyde and the department hosts a vibrant post-graduate community. Rich local archives provide the material for Masters and PhD research topics in all subject areas within the department.

Head of Department Professor Richard Finlay.
