As a student in HaSS, you will benefit from opportunities to tailor your degree to suit your own interests and requirements.

All students apply to the Faculty, rather than to an individual school or department, giving you more flexibility to choose from a range of compulsory, optional and elective credit-based classes.

Bachelor of Arts

The flexible Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Social Sciences course enables full-time students to study three subjects in your first year, and then choose two of these to concentrate on in your second year. You can then continue with both subjects in your third and fourth years and graduate with Joint Honours or Major and Minor Honours, or you can choose to specialise in a single subject and graduate with Single Honours. There are also opportunities to choose subjects from the other faculties, including Science and Strathclyde Business School. The course is also available by part-time study.

Visiting students are welcome to select classes from across the degree course, subject to the approval of the Exchange Co-ordinator or Subject Leader.

Professionally Accredited degrees

The Faculty's professionally accredited degrees incorporate the required elements to enable students to become qualified teachers, lawyers, psychologists, counsellors, community educators, speech and language therapists and social workers. Many of these courses include a placement element.

Graduate School

Offering both taught and research degrees, the Graduate School provides dedicated support to postgraduate students and helps to create a lively community of learners and researchers from a variety of different disciplines. The Graduate School delivers a Faculty-wide research training programme for first-year PhD students, and coordinates the delivery of common classes such as qualitative and quantitative methods, research design, and the philosophy of social sciences.
