The Professional Graduate Diploma in Education - PGDE - (Secondary) ensures that students enter teaching with professional skills, attitudes and competencies to focus their subject expertise on teaching and learning in the modern secondary school. The course recruits graduates from a full range of secondary teaching disciplines and is attended by UK, EU and international students. The Course is recognised as a valid teaching qualification throughout the world.
Secondary school teachers are able to qualify to teach one or two subject areas of the secondary curriculum. All subject areas in the Scottish secondary curriculum are available. PGDE (Secondary) is designed to meet the Benchmarks for Initial Teacher Education.
The course encourages active and participatory styles of learning in order to meet students' professional needs, and to promote a commitment to continuing professional development.
