This module has been designed to provide the curricular knowledge and pedagogical skills to enable students undertaking initial teacher education to achieve the Benchmarks for Entry into the Teaching Profession and to become teachers of Modern Languages.
Students who complete the module will be equipped with the professional skills and knowledge to enable them to take up their first appointment in a Modern Languages department with confidence and enthusiasm and to understand the place of their subject(s) and their role as teachers of Modern Languages within the framework of the school. They will become reflective practitioners with a sound knowledge of current theories of Modern Language teaching who can confidently develop approaches and strategies within the classroom that will stimulate and challenge learners, ensuring progression in language skills within a communicative context. Additionally, this module will make specific reference to National Priorities and Guidelines for learning, teaching and assessment.
