My general research interests are in early-twentieth-century British literature and literary criticism, popular culture, and Scottish literature. My major research work at the moment is on a projected book on literature and popular culture in Scotland during the First World War which I hope to complete in the next year.
I am currently supervising these PhD projects: Katie Donnelly (The technologised aesthetic in Virginia Woolf's late fiction), Elizabeth Finnegan (A postcolonial study of the Irish Literary Revival), (Nationalism, transnationalism and literary form in American and Canadian literature of the First World War), Aimee McNair (Contemporary Scottish literature and popular culture), and (Naomi Mitchison and Scotttish postcolonialism).
