Welcome to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Our mission is to pursue excellence in research, knowledge exchange and education to the benefit of our students, staff and wider society.  We help to generate new ideas, knowledge, skills and approaches that enable individuals and society to succeed in an increasingly complex technological age and to do so with a social conscience.

Postgraduate study in the newly created Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) continues to build on a strong Strathclyde tradition of research with the Schools of Education, Humanities, Applied Social Sciences, Law, Government and Public Policy and Psychological Sciences and Health.

The Faculty offers a wide range of taught postgraduate degrees (LLM, MSc, PGD, PGC) linked to the research areas of staff. We also offer research degrees (MPhil, MRes, EdD and PhD) in subject areas within each School.

Our Graduate School has been formed to deal with all aspects of postgraduate study from initial inquiries from potential students, to providing training and dedicated support within a community of students and researchers from a variety of different disciplines.

Some of the courses we offer have very strong professional links.  This may mean that you are taught by external professionals committed to ensuring graduates have the skills required in the work place.  This may require students to have particular qualifications or to have experience in a specific field.

Students on certain courses have the opportunity to undertake a global project which will require them to take up a placement abroad in eg Africa.  On other courses, students will work closely with relevant external stakeholders within a specific profession.

If your knowledge and expertise lies within any of the subject areas offered within our Faculty, please contact the Graduate School who will support you through the application process.
