Education:
MA (hons), PhD (Glasgow)
Background :
I joined the University in January 2007 following an MA and PhD at the University of Glasgow.
Research:
I am the director of the Strathclyde Oculomotor Lab. My personal research interests are in cognitive neuroscience, in particular with regard to the dysfunctions in visual perception found in the syndrome of spatial neglect. My other research interests include neuropsychological aspects of eye movement control, perception and action, face processing, attentional and perceptual biases, and hemispheric laterality. Much of my research employs eyetracking technology, and I employ both an SR Research Eyelink 2 and an SR Research Eyelink 2000 in my lab.
Teaching responsibilities:
I am the first year psychology tutor (C8105 and C8106). I am the facilitator for the C8105 Problem Based Learning module. Additionally, I teach the Psychological disorders module in C8106. I also teach on the second year Introduction to Research Design and Analysis (C8203) and Cognition & Neuropsychology (C8201) courses.
At postgraduate level I teach on the Methods in Experimental Psychology module of the MRes in Research Methods in Psychology (C8915).
In 2011 I was nominated for a Strathclyde Teaching Excellence award, and subsequently shortlisted for the 'Overall Best Teacher' award. In 2012 I was again nominated for a Strathclyde Teaching Excellence award...thank you very much!
Postgraduate supervision:
I am currently supervising Mel McKendrick, Tedis Tafili, Jillian Hobson and Louise Williams' doctoral research (all fully funded), and Gillian Little and Katie Russell's Masters research.
In 2011 I was awarded the PsyPag Outstanding Doctoral Supervisor Award.
University responsibilities and memberships:
Within the University, I am a steering group member of Census (Centre for Neuroscience at the University of Strathclyde), and a steering group member of the Stroke Research at Strathclyde group.
Within the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences I am a KE representative.
Within the School I am a member of the BA Psychology academic affairs committee.
Affiliations and external responsibilities:
I am a chartered Psychologist, an associate fellow of the British Psychological Society, and an associate member of the Psychonomic Society.
I have been an invited peer reviewer for the following journals: Neuroscience Letters; Experimental Psychology; Addiction Research and Theory; Cortex; Developmental Psychology; Experimental Brain Research; Journal of Vision; Perception; Perception and Psychophysics; Attention, Perception and Psychophysics; Vision Research; Visual Cognition; Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology; Perceptual and Motor Skills; Psychological Reports.
