Dr. Jesús Rodero graduated from the University of El País Vasco in Journalism (1982) and English (1987). He holds an M.A and a PhD from the University of Cincinnati (1994). He joined the Department of Modern Languages at Strathclyde University in 1994. He is currently the Subject Leader in Spanish. His main research interests are in the 20th Century Latin American prose fiction, in particular the short story. Among his publications in this area are two monographs –one on the short stories of Julio Ramón Ribeyro (2000), the other on the 20th Century short story of the fantastic (2006) –, and numerous articles in refereed journals on, among others, Julio Cortázar, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, Gabriel García Márquez, Rosario Ferré and Adolfo Bioy Casares. Work in press includes a study of José Emilio Pacheco’s short stories and an article on the politics of the fantastic in Ferré’s short fiction. He is currently working on a joint research project entitled ‘Political and Cultural Paradigms of the Fantastic in Modern Hispanic Fiction and Film’.
