Digital Childhoods

main content

Digital Childhoods was a programme of events, funded by the Scottish Universities’ Insight Institute. The programme ran from March till June 2011.

The Digital Childhoods programme presents and discusess findings from the last decade on the role of digital technologies in the lives of young children. It draws on research in education, computer science, sociology, psychology and media studies, and co-ordinates and extends this in collaboration with professional, commercial and public interest groups to inform the agenda for the next decade.

The programme centres around three key events on the themes of Childhoods & Parenting, Playing & Learning and Creating & Communicating.

The Digital Childhoods programme is a partnership between The University of Strathclyde and The University of Stirling. We are working with CBeebies, London Knowledge Lab, Futurelab and Learning & Teaching Scotland.

This event considered the latest research on how digital technologies affect the way our children play.

Our final event considered whether technology promotes creativity in children and how it may impact upon how they communicate.
