Many Thousands of books sent
The Malawi Millennium Project has been supplying appropriate textbooks to Malawi since its creation in 2000. Thanks to the generosity of many staff and students of the University of Strathclyde, publishers, booksellers and other external well wishers, over 22,500 books and journals, worth over £336,000, have been sent to the University of Malawi libraries during the last eight years. Margaret Harrison, University Archivist, who has been responsible for the sorting and shipping of the materials, has worked with local librarians and academic staff to ensure the suitability of the donations. School textbooks donated by booksellers, publishers and schools in Scotland have also been sent for distribution to schools in Malawi, including a major donation of 210,000 school textbooks from Harcourt Education.
