Professor Sara Carter, Head of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at Strathclyde Business School, has been awarded an OBE for her services to women entrepreneurs.
Professor Carter joined the Hunter Centre in 2007, having previously been Professor of Entrepreneurship and Head of the Department of Management at the University of Stirling. Her research focuses on the small firms sector, with particular emphasis on female, agricultural and rural business owners.
Professor Carter undertook the first UK government-funded study of women entrepreneurs in 1988, and has published a number of studies of female self-employment and business ownership. She is an editor of leading peer-reviewed research journal Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice.
She is also a member of the UK Government’s Women’s Enterprise Task Force; a member of the Advisory Board of the Global Banking Alliance for Women; and recipient of the Prowess ‘Making an Impact’ award for her research into women’s enterprise.
Professor Carter said: "It is a great honour to be recognized in the Honours List. The award is also a recognition of the importance and achievements of women entrepreneurs in the UK economy."
