Hilary is currently working on doctoral research with Strathclyde Graduate Business School, Understanding of Management Practice with Prof Gerry Johnson as supervisor. Following on from her experience as a designer working within the organizational built environment, particularly in the design of office environments for large scale developments for the micro electronics and oil industries, Hilary moved into Lecturing.
Having worked in the Interior Architecture of organizational spaces for a number of years and observed the reactions of staff before, during and after changes to their working environment in terms of architecture or Interior design she became curious to find an explanation for certain types of behavior or reactions employees had to the physical environment they were in. This curiosity was stimulated by her lecturing work in Organisational Behaviour. This prompted her to commence work on a doctoral thesis in the area of the exploration of meanings and manipulation in symbolic artifacts in the built environment.
Hilary has previously worked as a lecturer in Management and Design in both the UAE and France. Prior to this she either managed or owner/managed Interior Design companies based in Scotland for a number of years. Hilary also works as a registered consultant with the department of Trade and Industry in the area of strategic management and marketing of design companies.
