Education: Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Electrical Engineering (National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur, India), European Joint MSc in Global Innovation Management (University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK & Technische Universitat Hamburg Harburg, Germany)
Born in Bangalore in 1985, Anup was educated in India, United Kingdom and Germany. He completed his BTech in Electrical Engineering from NIT Durgapur in 2007, where he was awarded the 3rd place in "Technology Entrepreneurship Development Program on Embedded Systems" organised by the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), India and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He started his career in 2007 at IBM, where he was an Application Programmer in the Datawarehousing and Business Intelligence department. He then went on to work as a Software Engineer for SAP.
In 2009, Anup was awarded the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to pursue a Joint Master in Global Innovation Management. In the following year, he spent a rewarding summer as an intern, plying his innovation management skills at the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), a department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India .where he worked on Grassroots Innovations and Public Policy. He won the first place in 'The Erasmus Mundus Alumni Promotion & Careers Team Entrepreneurial Challenge 2011', for his work on Grassroots Innovations.
Anup's PhD at the Department of Management, Strathclyde Business School, is supervised by Dr Barbara Simpson and Dr Dave MacKay. It focuses on 'People, Practises and Technology in Innovation and Commercialisation'. Specifically, his research interests concerns:
- Every day practises which constitute creative action in business (especially Chemical, FMCG and Renewable Energy businesses)
- Creative practises associated with the design of innovative business models.
- The interplay between technology and innovation: the actual practises and social dynamics leading to technology- mediated innovations.
Additionally, he also tutors undergraduate students on Foundations of Management and International Business.
Anup's hobbies include debating, quizzing, travelling and food. He is the 2010 British Champion of 'Tata Crucibles UK', UK's largest business quiz. Anup is trained in Indian classical music and enjoys Woody Allen movies. He is a keen enthusiast of cricket, tennis and formula one. An avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction, Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, Vikram Seth and Amitava Ghosh are his favourite writers. He has also written guest columns for 'The Telegraph', a leading Indian English newspaper. He speaks fluent English, Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil.
