In his research, teaching and consulting activities Peter is centrally concerned with improving peoples understanding of the intra- and inter-personal dynamics generated in the course of management practice. Peters abiding interest in these issues were what motivated his move from industry into academia in 2003. They were also strongly represented in the PhD he completed in 2006 which took a social constructionist position in considering the role of identity dynamics in two organisations undergoing change. In addition to a stream of publications published during and after his doctoral studies Peter has acted as a Guest Co-editor of a forthcoming special edition of the International Journal of Public Administration and is currently the Chair of the British Academy of Managements Special Interest Group in Identity.
Before becoming a lecturer Peter spent over a decade working as an accountant in a variety of commercial organisations across the manufacturing and service sectors. During this time he participated in the design, implementation and operation of a wide variety of control systems ranging from performance management systems right up to full Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. His association with the Department of Management began with his Masters and, after a period as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, he was appointed as Lecturer in Management in 2003. The unique combination of research interests and experience that Peter possesses has seen him deliver challenging, managerially-relevant education in the areas of Change Management, Management Practice and Managerial Accounting for both postgraduate and executive development audiences.
