The Department of Management Science at the University of Strathclyde offers the MSc in Operational Research by Distance Learning.
It is also available as a full or part-time course on-campus.
Normal admission for this fully tutored course is October each year. However, admission is also available in April each year.

The programme contains three stages. In progressing towards completion of the MSc students will undertake the following:
Postgraduate Certificate in OR
This includes five core modules and one optional module which can be completed fully online.
Five core classes:
- Foundations of OR & Business Analysis
- Quantitative Business Analysis
- Managing Business Operations
- Spreadsheet modelling & demand forecasting
- Operational Research methods
One optional class chosen from:
- Business Simulation Methods
- Risk Analysis & Management
- Decision Analysis
- Advanced Operations Research modeling using specialist software tools
Postgraduate Diploma in OR
After completion of the Postgraduate certificate two further optional modules and one core module are required to be undertaken.
Core class:
- Becoming an effective OR modeller
Two optional classes chosen from same list as for Certificate.
Students that wish to proceed to the Postgraduate Diploma need to be in appropriate employment. Your employment should require some analysis of business situations, in the private or public sector. Samples of your work will form the basis of reflection and learning projects, guided by a personal mentor.
MSc in OR
Students who complete the Diploma and gain sufficient marks to proceed to the MSc will be expected to undertake a project. The project will be integrated with your employment. The final decision as to what "appropriate employment" is remains with the University of Strathclyde. You will have individual personal mentoring to guide you in reflection and learning.
