Problem Structuring and Mixing Methods

Over recent years members of the Problem Structuring and Mixing Methods group have won the prestigious OR Society Beale Medal (Colin Eden, 2007) the OR Society Goodeve Medal (Colin Eden and Susan Howick),  an Academy of Management Best Paper Award (2006) and the Georg Cantor Lifetime Achievement Award (International Society for Multi-Criteria Decision Methods, Val Belton, 2008).  Research in the group has been funded by grants totalling more than £485,000 from a variety of organizations, including Bombardier, and an EPSRC CASE award. Among the many publications in recent years includes two special issues of Journal of the Operational Research Society and articles in European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Research, Group Decision and Negotiation, System Dynamics Review and Decision Support Systems. Fran Ackermann and Colin Eden continue to research problem structuring methods, and  together with Susan Howick, they led a major project integrating problem structuring methods with simulation modelling and project management. Related research in mixing methods is that of Valerie Belton who focuses on Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), its integration with problem structuring methods and other OR approaches.
