John Finch joined the department in August 2007. Previously John worked at the University of Aberdeen Business School where he was programme leader for the MSc in Management, Innovation and Change and latterly Director of the Business School's Graduate Programmes. John has been elected twice to the council of the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy and chaired its Scientific Committee. He has been a visiting researcher at Curtin University's Business School, where he is an affiliated member of its Oil and Gas Management research area. John is an active member of the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing group, especially in market studies and has been co-organizer of tracks in this area at IMP conferences.
John's research interests are in business-to-business marketing, the development of industries and the emergence of market forms and marketing practices. Recent and forthcoming publications in this area are in Research Policy, Journal of Evolutionary Economics, Cambridge Journal of Economics, History of the Human Sciences and Marketing Theory. John's research in the upstream petroleum industry has been funded by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization and by the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.
