Professor Susan Hart is responsible for providing academic leadership to the Strathclyde Business School as well as contributing to the overall leadership of the University. At Faculty level this includes effective management of resources, in alignment with the University's Strategic Plan, to support, develop and enhance teaching, learning, research and knowledge exchange activities.
She is also the Chair of the Board of Study within SBS and an ex officio member of all committees of the Faculty.
Susan Hart was appointed to the role of Dean in April 2008. Prior to the appointment, she was Head of the Department of Marketing and Vice-Dean Research. Previous posts held were Professor of Marketing and Head of Department at the University of Stirling from 1995-98, and Professor of Marketing at Heriot Watt University from 1993-95.
In addition, she has worked for a variety of private sector companies, ranging from multinational to small manufacturers in consumer and industrial enterprises.
Susan Hart's research areas of interest include innovation and product-service development, marketing and competitive success and marketing performance measurement. She has been awarded research grants by The Leverhulme Trust, Economic and Social Research Council, Science and Engineering Research Council, Design Council Scotland and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Scottish Enterprise.
She has written more than 100 articles and papers, as well as writing and editing numerous books and publications. She edits the Journal of Marketing Management, an international, peer reviewed journal.
Susan Hart is a member of the Board of Directors of AACSB, also the European Advisory Committee and Accreditation Panel for AACSB, the Executive Committee of the Academy of Marketing and is Vice Dean Academic of the Senate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, as well as a Fellow of the Marketing Society, The Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Leadership Trust Foundation. Prof Hart is an Advisory Board member of; Ecole de Management, Paris; Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick and the Universiti Putra Malaysia. She is also a Director of The Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Her visiting academic roles include Griffith University, Queensland; Pennsylvania State University; The University of Murcia in Spain and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands; Swiss Management Forum, Zurich; Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Austria; Maastricht University Business School; ESC Toulouse; UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, Co. Dublin.
