Kevin Ibeh, PhD, MSc (Strath), MBA (Nig), BSc (Hons) (Imo), MCIM, is Professor of Marketing and International Business and Head of Department of Marketing at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. He is formerly Deputy Director of the Strathclyde International Business Unit. Professor Ibeh began his academic career in Nigeria, before joining Strathclyde's graduate programme as Commonwealth Scholar, and later Lecturer. He has subsequently had professional stints in Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Singapore, Spain, and the USA and has presented research papers in several other countries. Currently Visiting Professor of International Business at Cambridge's Anglia Ruskin University, Professor Ibeh also holds external examiner appointments in Australia, Ghana, Malaysia, and the UK. His expertise has been leveraged by a range of institutions, including government agencies (e.g. the OECD, World Bank Group, European Commission, Scottish Enterprise); grant-making bodies (e.g. the ESRC, Nuffield Foundation, Royal Society of Edinburgh, Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs); scholarly academies (e.g. AIB, EIBA, AMS, EMAC, EURAM, AM, IAABD); and private sector organizations.
Professor Ibeh is member of the editorial advisory board / review team of several peer reviewed journals. He has also been invited Speaker at a number of major international conferences, including the Academy of International Business UK, International Council for Small Business and Academy of Marketing Science, and has chaired tracks/sessions in several others. Author of over eighty scholarly papers in peer reviewed journals and edited volumes, Professor Ibeh's recent work has appeared in Journal of World Business, British Journal of Management, Management International Review, European Journal of Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Small Business Economics, International Journal of Market Research, and International Small Business Journal. His recent book, Contemporary Challenges to International Business, was published by Palgrave in 2009. Some of his work has been supported by funding from the British Council, European Commission, Scottish Enterprise, among others.
Research Interests
Professor Ibeh’s work has mainly focused on advancing knowledge of how non dominant firms, including SMEs, developing country firms and newly emerging multinationals, could be more effectively guided to capitalize upon growth opportunities in international markets. He is considered a leading authority on African Transnational Corporations (TNCs), based on his pioneering research on this little known subgroup of Emerging Market Multinationals. In addition to his exporting, international entrepreneurship and firm internationalisation research, Professor Ibeh retains interest in development marketing and in developing female talent for global management.
