The growth and importance of hospitality and tourism to national and regional economies is widely recognised. The sector plays a major role in international trade and make a major contribution to the GDP of many developed and developing countries. The Strathclyde Business School is a world leading business school, with a long-established, international reputation in postgraduate hospitality and tourism education.

Our one year, full-time Master's Postgraduate Diploma in International Hospitality and Tourism Management is designed for graduates who wish to pursue a career in this area.  Graduates of the programme will develop management skills and industry specific knowledge that will place them on a fast track towards a management career in hospitality or tourism.  Career opportunities are extremely varied, ranging from managing 5 star holiday resorts, through to public sector jobs such as tourism planning and destination marketing.

The Department of Marketing

The course is managed within the Department of Marketing, a department which has an international reputation for both research and scholarship. The Department's research is disseminated in top-quality international journals and the Department is widely recognised as a leading centre of excellence in marketing worldwide. Academic staff combine first-rate academic credentials with significant business experience. There are currently over 30 academic staff with international reputations for research and teaching in marketing, services marketing, hospitality and tourism. The Department has up-to-date teaching facilities and prides itself in the virtual learning environment which supports its teaching.

Strathclyde Business School

Strathclyde Business School is the longest established business school in Scotland and one of the largest Business Schools in Europe, with a turnover in excess of £23 million. The eight subject departments and specialist units offer the full range of undergraduate degrees, postgraduate (taught and research) programmes, and research and consultancy. There are approximately 600 full-time and 1,800 part-time postgraduate students, and over 170 academic staff.

The School puts particular emphasis on combining excellence with relevance and has a high reputation for the quality of its staff, teaching, research and graduates. The School also has strong links with business and industry internationally: in addition to research contracts and consultancy, companies are involved in student placements and many contribute to programmes.

The Business School has achieved the Funding Council's excellent and commendable ratings for the quality of its teaching, and international and national excellence ratings for its research.

The School has achieved accreditation from EQUIS, AACSB International and AMBA. Of the over 3,500 Business Schools worldwide it is one of only 32 – and the only one in Scotland - to have achieved recognition from the three leading accreditation bodies for business schools, placing it in the top 1% of Business Schools worldwide. These awards are added to the accreditation already gained from bodies such as the Economic and Social Research Council, the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
