Entry Requirements

  • A degree, or other qualification considered by the University Senate to be the equivalent to a first- or upper second-class Honours degree of a British University OR
  • A postgraduate Master's degree in Business or Marketing
  • If English is not your first language you are required to have an IELTS score of 7 or a minimum TOEFL score of 625 or 263 computerised

Course Structure

PhD students will be expected to gain a Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) or Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Research Methodology in Business and Management, which runs throughout the first year of study. 

The course provides you with a grounding in research methodologies in the management disciplines, in accordance with the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) guidelines. As this course is run by the Faculty and not by individual departments, you are able to exploit the cross-fertilisation of ideas between different areas of management.

You will also be expected to attend seminars led by guest speakers, these seminars cover a variety of marketing topics. This affords you the opportunity to regularly discuss research topics with a growing network of contacts.

Applications are welcomed from students who wish to research in any area of marketing but particularly from those who intend to work in one of the Department's major research areas.
